Choosing the right mousepad can feel overwhelming. There are cloth pads, plastic references, large XXL pads, and even desktop surfaces. But how do you know which pad actually performs well in terms of speed, control, and feedback?
I tested nine surfaces using a consistent, repeatable method that focuses on real-world behavior — not lab numbers — with multiple mice, including a 15-year-old Magic Mouse, a Lenovo Legion M600, and a Logitech G305.

This testing method is relative and designed to show the differences visually. Glide and stopping behavior are influenced by the pad’s surface and the mouse feet - your experience may vary.

Interesting Finding – Fastest Surface Depends on the Mouse
One of the most surprising results from the 10° slide test is that there is no single “fastest” mousepad for all mice.
Each mouse had a different surface where it moved the fastest:
- Lenovo Legion M600 (3 years old) → fastest on Logitech G840 XL
- Apple Magic Mouse (15 years old) → fastest on Razer Gigantus V2 XXL
- Logitech G305 (4 years old) → fastest on Asus ROG Sheath
This clearly shows that glide speed depends on the combination of mouse weight, mouse feet (skates), and surface texture, not just the mousepad alone.
So if you’re looking for the “fastest” pad, the answer is: it depends on your mouse.
