How to copy one file in linux with progress bar, using pv

This is just for fun as I do not see it's use in real life situation: 
core:scripts# pv /home/backups/core/img/varlv.dd.gz > /home/recovery/varlv.dd.gz
1.05GB 0:00:40 [26.3MB/s] [=========================================================>] 100%
